The Father of Our Country

The Father of Our Country
by
Jamie Driver

George Washington was the first President of America in 1789.  He didn't want the people to treat him like a king, so he highly recommended them to call him "Mr. President."  Because Washington cared for his young country, he traveled the 13 states.  During the French Revolution, Washington, Who didn't want war, helped keep peace, between America and England.  He also believed if Americans lived virtuous lives, we could keep our country strong.  George Washington will always be called "The Father of Our Country."

The Dog and the Cat

The Dog and the Cat
 by
 Jamie Driver

In a farmyard there lived a dog and a cat who usually were nice to each other.  But today they had a tremendously terrible fight over who scared the chickens off.  The dog was hurt and went to a place to hide.  The cat went to the middle of the yard and meowed to declare victory.  The farmer who was walking by, saw the hurt dog.  He went over and carried him into the house.  After the farmer cleaned the dogs wounds the cat and the dog said they would never fight again.

The Girl and the Apples

There once was a young girl who was at an apple farm.  She saw a bucket which was full of apples.  She reached in and grabbed as many apples as she could and pulled.  The apples would not come out, because her fist was bulging with apples, so she burst into tears.  Suddenly the famous American Girl, whose name was Kit, walked up and told the girl, "If you want to be satisfied you will have to take fewer apples."  Sometimes you have to give up a little of what you wish.

Pill Bug

Pill Bug
by
Jamie Driver

The pill bug are common inhabitants of this world.  If it is disturbed it will roll up into a ball shaped like a pill.  The sowbug is a close relative.  It is similar to the pillbug but is flatter and can't role up.  Like lobsters and crabs they are crustaceans, which use gills to breathe not lungs.  The pillbug breathes from his underside and lives in moist places.

Some Information About Sea Snakes

Sea snakes are the most poisonous snakes in the world.  Scientists say the sea snake's venom is  50 times worse than the King Cobra.  They do not always inject venom when they bite, which nobody understands why.  The poison is slow to take effect at a fatality rate of 25%.  Fishermen are careless by stepping on and handling sea snakes.

NEW WRITING PROGRAM

You will notice the writing assignments for this year will look a little different.  I am using a new program for our homeschool that utilizes existing written pieces of work and rewrites them.  Like a budding musician who needs to practice playing existing music in order to internalize styles of composition prior to creating original pieces of work, a budding writer needs to practice rewriting existing articles of language in order to internalize the writing styles.  Jamie and John Paul will have the same writing assignments, so you will notices their pieces are very similar, yet uniquely their own.  I hope you will enjoy reading them! -Teacher Mom :)

Me and my dog

My family and I have a dog named Lady.  She is eleven years old and she is a Lhssa Apso.
Lady has some tan patches, but she is mostly white.  Lady is very gentle with people. My mom and dad got her before I was born.  They also said Lady was a shy dog when they went to get her, but Lady came straight to them. I love her and I'm glad she is part of the family.

Magic Kingdom

In January my family went to Disney World.  We were there for the Homeschool Days and visited each park.  On the first day we went to The Magic Kingdom.  In The Magic Kingdom I saw tasted, touched, heard, and smelled different things.

First we went on the Fairy Boat which took us across the lagoon to the Magic Kingdom.  On the boat I heard the water moving and the seagulls chirping.  We saw tons of people on the boat, talking, standing, and sitting while they were waiting to get to the park.

After we entered the Magic Kingdom, the first ride we went on was Journey of the Little Mermaid.  We sat in the moving clam shells that felt plastic.  The ride was dark, but I saw bright moving robots that described the movie. Music on the ride was loud, and I recognized it from the movie.  It was exciting because it was my first ride.

When it was around lunchtime, we found a hot dog place called Casey's Corner.  When we walked in, I smelled the food.  We ordered hot dogs and french fries which tasted hot and salty.  While we ate lunch, I saw some ducks by our table.

After lunch, the girls went to see the princesses.  We had to wait about an hour before we could see the princesses. During that hour we were bored and thirsty.  When we finally got to see the princesses, I saw Rapunzel with her long yellow hair.  Sleeping Beauty had her pink dress on, and Cinderella wore her sparkly, blue ball gown.  I really liked seeing the princesses.

For the last activity in The Magic Kingdom, we went on Aladdin's Magic Carpet Ride.  The ride was exciting because we went around slowly, and we could control if we wanted to go high or low.  The seats were colorful, and when we were high I could see people waiting in line, palm trees, and Mommy, Daddy, and Josie in front of us.  I really enjoyed The Magic Carpets.

The Magic Kingdom was fun because we got to do things we've never done before.  I used all or my senses to collect memories.  I can't wait to go back someday.

The Life of Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder

Laura Ingalls Wilder was a famous author who lived in the 1800s and 1900s.  In 1867, Laura Elizabeth Ingalls Wilder was born in Pepin, Wisconsin.  Laura was the second of five children.  Her sisters’ names were Mary Amelia Ingalls, Caroline Celestia Ingalls, and Grace Pearl Ingalls. In 1869, they moved to Indian Territory, Kansas.  While they lived in Kansas, they were forced by troops to leave, and so they went back to Pipen, Wisconsin.  Soon after, they moved to the banks of Plum Creek which is Walnut Grove, Minnesota.  In November 1875, Laura’s brother Charles Fredrick Ingalls, Jr. was born.  He died when he was nine months old.  For a while the Ingalls moved to Burr Oak, Iowa to run a hotel.  Then they moved back to Walnut Grove.  Mary got sick with scarlet fever and became blind.  In 1879, they moved to De Smet, Dakota Territory.  Laura got married to Almanzo on August 25, 1885.  They had a baby girl named Rose Wilder.  In the spring of 1888, Laura and Almanzo got ill with diphtheria.  Laura had a baby boy, but died at twelve days old.  Almanzo’s and Laura’s house and tree claim burned down, but they rebuild it.  The Wilders left De Smet and went to Mansfield, Missouri.   In 1932, when she was 65, Laura’s first book was published called Little House in the Big Woods.   The following year Farmer Boy was published, followed by Little House on the Prairie. On the Banks of Plum Creek,   By the shores of Silver Lake, The Long Winter, and Little Town on the Prairie  soon followed.  On October 23, 1949, Almanzo Wilder died.  On February 10, 1957, Laura died at the age of 90.  Long after her death, in 1971, Laura’s unfinished story The First Four Years was published.  Laura Ingalls Wilder had a lot of happy and sad times in her life and also hard times.  I enjoyed her books because I like how she lived.

Book Report: First Farm in the Valley

Book Report:  First Farm in the Valley
Written By: Anne Pellowski

Anna Pellowski was a girl who was Polish and American.  She lived in Wisconsin in the late 1800s.  Anna was a Catholic and a shepherd.

Anna, her cousins, and her brother were shepherds.  Hail started coming down once when she was herding sheep.  Shepherding was hard work.

Anna’s life was dramatic.  Once she helped her father and brother bring wood to Dodge.  While they were doing this, they almost got hit by a train.  Another time, diphtheria spread around their town, but it didn’t come to her family.  They were lucky.  Also, one time she was babysitting alone with her brothers and sisters and a stranger came.  Even though her life was dramatic, it turned out better in the end.

They did different things to celebrate their faith.  On Easter her family drank from fresh spring water. They also celebrated her mom’s name day and  Anna’s patron saint’s feast day.  They celebrated their faith obediently.

I thought the songs were weird, but I want to read more books from this series.
I like the book because I learn how people from Poland lived a little bit.

The Living room and J.P.'s Bedroom

The living room and J.P.'s room have some differences.  The living room has a T.V. but J.P.'s room has posters.  They both have pictures on the walls.  J.P.'s room has a bunk bed, but the living room has couches and a chair. The rooms both have light switches.  We read and sleep in J.P.'s room, but we pray in the living room.  All of us play in both rooms.  They both have crosses and clocks.  J.P. is in J.P.'s room, and Josie is in the living room.  J.P.'s room has stars on the ceiling and a moon on the wall, but the living room has nothing on the ceiling.  The rooms both have fans, lights, and windows.  Both rooms are different, but we still enjoy the rooms.

The Princess Who Climbs Trees

Once upon a time, there lived a princess who loved to climb trees.  One day, she was climbing a willow tree in the enchanted forest when she saw her prince.  She has known this prince for years.  They have been planning to get married.  She climbed down to see him, but when she was climbing down, she fell.  She hurt her back.  Magically a fairy came and made her back better.  She married the prince and lived happily ever after.

Tower of Terror

Have you ever been on the Tower of Terror at Disney World?  You walk in and sit down and buckle up.  It is dark inside. You go up and then you go forward.  THEN YOU FALL DOWN!  It goes up and down many times.  It feels like you're falling up and you can't feel your seat. Some people like this ride and some don't.  I don't like this ride, because it is scary.

Just a Wild Flower

I am just a wild flower.  A wild flower is just a weed.  The weed is like my tourettes, because a weed is annoying and in the way.  Weeds grow out of control like my tics.  But the flower is still beautiful like me.
